Ballads LP Launch with Time Is Away, Memotone & Moopie25/09/22, 4pm - 11pm
Over the better half of a decade, Time is Away, the London-based duo of Jack Rollo and Elaine Tierney, have made tender and heartfelt transmissions through countless mixes, sound works, live appearances and radio. Exploring deeply human themes of memory, persistence and resistance using an assemblage of source material, the duo’s unique mode of storytelling culminates in Ballads, a new suite of songs and, significantly, their first officially licensed compilation, released on A Colourful Storm. Time Is Away will open the evening with a set that is rooted in the music of Ballads.
There will be live music from Memotone (Will Yates), a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and producer, working with minimal, ambient and contemporary classical music. Predominantly an improviser, recent years have seen memotone lean towards a more free-form approach, exploring jazz, drone and more meditative musics, also showing a keen interest in sound design and textural experimentation.
The evening will close with a DJ set from Moopie, the Melbourne-based DJ behind A Colourful Storm. The records he releases with A Colourful Storm range from experimental DnB to unearthed folk-pop, whilst as a DJ, Moopie connects strands from far corners of electronic music history and pushes them forward alongside contemporary and unreleased cuts.
